Hiding

Vanish from sight while standing still. Hiding is the foundation of every thief's toolkit — successful ambushes start before the target knows you are there.

Hide mechanics

  • Activation: standing still for 3 seconds (reduced by skill).
  • At 0—30 Hiding: detectable from 10 tiles. Cannot hide in combat.
  • At 30—60 Hiding: detectable from 6 tiles. Can hide 5 seconds after combat ends.
  • At 60—90 Hiding: detectable from 3 tiles. Can hide in shadows during combat.
  • At 90+ Hiding: detectable from 1 tile. Can fade mid-combat if out of line of sight.

Detection factors

  • Enemy skill level relative to your Hiding affects detection range.
  • Light level: darker environments grant a hiding bonus. Torches and spells reveal.
  • Movement: entering hiding fails if you were running. Must be walking or still.
  • Armor penalty: heavy armor increases detection range by 1—3 tiles.

Uses

  • Ambush setup: hide before combat to guarantee first strike.
  • Escape: hide to break aggro. Works on most NPCs.
  • Scouting: bypass dangerous areas without engaging.
  • Thievery: positioning for Stealing attempts.
