Success rate at 100 skill. Tool quality bonuses can improve effective success rate. At higher skill levels, only rarer resource tiers grant skill gain.

Creature sources

  • Passive animals — tier 1—3 leathers. Deer, boars, cattle. Low risk.
  • Predators — tier 3—6 leathers. Wolves, bears, big cats. Moderate danger.
  • Magical beasts — tier 5—8 leathers. Dire variants, chimeras. High risk, high reward.
  • Boss creatures — tier 8 leathers. World events and dungeon bosses only.

Skinning mechanics

  • Each creature can be skinned once. Yield increases with skill.
  • Higher quality leathers have a chance to drop bonus scraps.
  • Skinning a creature before it despawns requires speed — corpses decay over time.
