Stealing
Lift items from other players and NPCs without being detected. Success depends on skill, target awareness, and the weight of the stolen object. Getting caught has consequences.
Weight limits
- 0—25 Stealing: max item weight 1 stone. Can steal gold coins only.
- 25—50 Stealing: max item weight 3 stones. Potions, scrolls, small valuables.
- 50—75 Stealing: max item weight 8 stones. Weapons, light armor.
- 75—100 Stealing: max item weight 15 stones. Heavy weapons, armor, treasure maps.
- 100+ Stealing (with scrolls): max item weight 20 stones. Nearly any non-container item.
- Containers cannot be stolen. Items from bags must be taken individually.
Detection and consequences
- Base detection chance: 40% modified by relative skill difference.
- Detection rolls every time you attempt a steal. Failed roll = caught.
- Caught stealing from a player: criminal flag for 24 hours. Guard attack on sight.
- Caught stealing from NPC: shopkeeper aggro. May close shop permanently.
- Bounty system: repeat offenders accumulate player bounties.
Synergies
- Hiding + Stealing: can attempt theft while hidden. Failed theft breaks hide.
- Stealth + Stealing: move into position, steal, and escape before target notices.
- Peacemaking + Stealing: calm a target before attempting theft. Reduces detection chance.
